Richard Hutcheson's Robinhood 2B

2B, 2L Pinto

I purchased my kit back in October 2002 from a guy who had never done a thing to it. I see now why he didn't bother! It was intended to be something to do over the winter.

How wrong can a person be? Worked steadily as per the videos and then having to take bits off again and again, bending here, fabricating there, bleeding everywhere and generally getting more and more frustrated.

Working a month on it and then needing 4-5 months away from it, i finally managed to get it to its SVA Test back in August 2004. Half way through the test the water pump died and that was that. Two pumps later and it was ready but then frustration set in and so did the Carb problems.

I was given a replacement Head and Carb from one of our members and duly put them on only to find that the Carb was still not working. (Auto-choke version) Had 3 different alleged experts come and look at it but to no joy and than Bob put in his wealth of experience and came up with the suggestion to sort all.

Fitted a manual choke kit and had co concede defeat on the piston ring replacement (and the column switch wiring too) and hey presto - she's a runner!

A quick drive showed some issues with steering and had to take out and re-do the steering shaft angle and bush kit. Tie Rod nds were another issue but thankfully someone managed to write their sierra off (not injured pleased to know) and graciously supplied me with replacements. THese fitted and a quick trip to the MOT Centre for tracking and emissions test and test was re-booked. (6th in all - 1 attended the rest were continually deferred).

Big day arrived and it was wetter than a Gin and Tonic! Arrived nice and early and met the examiner. Nice Bloke was really into kit cars and was very fair - adjusting my headlights and helping with a clutch problem and a sudden idling issue on the emissions test. Think he felt sorry for me as he knew about all my test dates that i had to put back.

The best bit about all this so far - another car was in there from South Africa and was worth £80k. It looked the muts danglies but it filed on loads of things. How we laughed!
I shouldn't have laughed as the very next day on way to VRO to get the number plate, my clutch / gearbox went kaboom. Its still not back up and running yet but i hope by the end of this week it will be sorted enough to get to the VRO Office and finally get me on the road once and for all.

During all the agro i have had with my build and the times i had it on ebay for sal e etc, one thing kept me going - the thought of driving it to one of our pub meets before i sell it and move on to a new project.

Thanks to everyone for their words of support, helpful emails, spanner meets, advice, spare parts and anything else i may have forgotten to mention.
